Comedy Irish Films on Netflix

1. In Bruges (2008)

Genre: dark comedy
Cast: Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes

“In Bruges” is regarded as one of the funniest films released since the turn of the century. The plot revolves around two unlucky hitmen who are holed up in picturesque Bruges. The film is as strange as you’d expect from an Irish comedy.

In his role as a suicidal assassin with an irrational hatred of the Belgian city of Bruges, Farrell shines.

Ralph Fiennes is fantastic as the film’s adversary and drives the third act, but this is a picture that will have you smiling from start to finish. For this perfect gem of an Irish comedy, no joke is too outrageous, and no subject is too provocative.

2. Philomena (2013)

Genre: Comedy-drama

Make sure to see the award-winning film Philomena, which is set in Ireland.

The Siege of Jadotville is a Netflix original that pays tribute to the Irish soldiers who were besieged while on a UN peacekeeping deployment in the Congo. Commandant Pat Quinlan, played by Jamie Dornan, commanded UN troops in a six-day standoff with mercenaries from France and Belgium.

Dornan’s acting versatility was shown in a new light in The Siege of Jadotville. During the siege, the Co Down-born actor offers a fantastic performance as Quinlan.

The film honors a largely unsung act of bravery in Irish military history and is recommended for anyone interested in learning more about modern Irish military operations.
